Research Groups and Networks

The PPGMC currently has two Research Groups registered with CNPq and is part of two international research networks.

Research Groups

Center for Studies in Visual Narratives and Transmedia (NAvT)

It focuses on the study of different types of visual narratives, with a focus on sequential arts.

The main productions of the group include the annual editions of the International Comics Week and the publication of the book “Direção de Arte e Transmidialidade,” FAPERJ / Editora UFRJ (ISBN – 978-85-7108-422-3), organized by Professors Amaury Fernandes Jr and Katia Augusta Maciel, with chapters authored by the organizers and Professors Octavio Aragão, Inês Maciel, Claudia Mendes, and Aline Frederico.

Laboratory for Media Studies and International Relations (LEMRI)

It focuses on studies of Media, International Relations, Humanitarian Issues, and Public Policies.

The group’s most recent productions include research on Public Communication in Brazil, with presentations at international events such as the meeting of the Latin Union of Political Economy of Information (ULEPICC), among others.

International Research Networks

Ibero-American Interdisciplinary Network of Creative Economy

Brings together graduate programs from Brazilian universities, including FEEVALE, UNICAP, UFRJ, ESPM, UFRRJ, and the University of Porto in Portugal, to promote events and studies on various sectors of the creative economy.

BUG404.net

The BUG404.net research network is formed by artists, creators, and researchers from UFRJ, UNIRIO, University of Montreal, University of Westminster, University of Bogotá, and New York University to promote dialogue and collaboration in interactive and immersive narratives in different formats and platforms.

The partnership with PPGMC resulted in the program’s participation in the BUG Showcase in 2018 and the book BUG: Narrativas Interativas e Imersivas.
